Twintage: The beginnings of a trailer makeover

The beginnings of a trailer makeover

We just got back from the cottage & I thought I would share a little project that we have on the go. It’s a project that has been on the back burner for a bit of time now. A few years ago my in-laws purchased this used trailer & brought it up to their cottage in Sauble Beach. They told us we could fix it up if we'd like and pretty much do what we'd like it with it. The last few years we've used it as an occasional place to sleep when the cottage was full but that was about it. I had always seen potential in it, even though it needs quite a bit of love.

My hubby felt ambitious this last trip up (I guess) because he starting to demo the items we don't need inside. Since the main cottage has a stove, sink and fridge we don't need them in the trailer. Taking these items out will leave room for an actual bed instead of a fold out one.

Here he is hard at work. Leaving not much left.

It's a little hard to be inspired when viewing it in this state but I have a few things planned. Also, did I mention we’re on the smallest budget ever? Because we are. In fact, there really isn't a budget at all. It’s basically going to be whatever we can scrounge up. It’s low on our financial priorities, but high on my DIY priorities! That being said, I’m hoping to put in a new floor. We're researching a few different options, either a DIY plywood plank floor or perhaps we'll find a laminate flooring deal at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. I'm also planning to paint the faux wood paneling walls & cupboards white, sew curtains, build a proper bunk bed & regular-sized bed. If there’s enough room, a dresser or small seating area would be nice too.

I'm excited to see how it all turns out, especially since we're renters. Any chance for me to replace floors or paint cupboards makes me ecstatic! We probably won't have a chance to get back up to work on it until the Labour Day weekend. The next few weekends are full of wedding related activities for my sister. Only a few more weeks to go until her big day! I can't wait!

Wish me luck for scrounging up for some cheap, or better yet, free items for our little trailer project.
I’ll post an update the next chance I get.

    1. Oh sorry, missed your comment! No it's currently still in the same condition. Now that the winter's over though, we plan on going up and working on it very soon! I'll update when when we do.
